AOVE sostenible

At Peña Luna, we are deeply aware of climate change, which is why we are committed to sustainable agriculture—but what does it really consist of?

Sustainable agriculture is a farming practice that promotes food production without damaging the environment. This type of agriculture uses techniques that maintain soil and water quality, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and preserve biodiversity.

In a world affected by climate change, sustainable agriculture is more important than ever. Global warming is affecting crop cycles and food quality. Natural disasters, such as floods and droughts, are severely impacting farming communities worldwide. Sustainable agriculture is a way to protect our planet and ensure that we have healthy and sustainable food for the future.

For this reason, we have been transitioning toward a 100% organic model for several years and have developed a unique production system that is environmentally sustainable.

Portable Organic Mill

Our portable organic mill allows us to move it across our different olive groves and extract the Extra Virgin Olive Oil "in situ." This not only increases the quality of the EVOO but also helps us reduce CO2 emissions by replacing multiple olive transports to the mill with a single trip.

Crop Rotation

Crop rotation is an agricultural practice that helps improve soil health, control pests and diseases, and conserve water resources. Therefore, it is a key strategy in sustainable and regenerative agriculture.

At Peña Luna, we do not harvest the entirety of our olive groves in every campaign; instead, each year we collect olives from a different sector to improve the health of our groves and obtain higher-quality EVOO.

Organic Products

A fundamental part of our process involves using organic products and remedies to care for our olive groves.

For example, at Peña Luna, we produce our own organic compost to fertilize our fields.

Biodiversity

Each of our EVOOs comes from a different olive variety, carefully selected to provide a unique flavor and aroma. We also choose these varieties for their beneficial properties for biodiversity. By planting specific olive varieties, we contribute to crop diversification and the protection of local biodiversity.

Dry-farmed Olive Groves

Water resource management is key to sustainable agriculture. At Peña Luna, we work with dry-farmed olive groves; this type of grove does not depend on any form of artificial irrigation, making it more environmentally friendly. Furthermore, as these trees are accustomed to long periods without water, they are more resilient to extreme weather conditions and drought.

On the other hand, although the yield of dry-farmed groves is lower compared to irrigated ones, the quality of the EVOO obtained is much higher.

In summary, sustainable agriculture is vital for the future of our planet and our health. We still have a long way to go, but our organic EVOO is a testament to how we can produce high-quality food while simultaneously protecting the environment.

Thank you for choosing our olive oil and contributing to a sustainable future for everyone.
