The Mezquita Awards is an international olive oil competition held in Cordoba, Spain, which seeks to promote the quality of extra virgin olive oil around the world. Each year, producers from all over the world submit their oils to be evaluated by a panel of olive oil tasting experts.
We are pleased to announce that our company has been awarded two Mezquita Oro 2023 medals, one for our hojiblanca extra virgin olive oil and one for our arbequina extra virgin olive oil. This is a great achievement for us and a recognition of the quality of our olive oils.
The hojiblanca is a variety of olive widely grown in Andalusia, Spain, and is known for its mild and balanced flavour. Its extra virgin olive oil is high in antioxidants and oleic acid, making it a healthy and delicious choice for cooking and seasoning.
Tasting Note
Fruity of green olives of medium-high intensity, and aromatic notes of freshly cut grass, wild plants and vegetables. Tomato, green grass and artichoke appear. Progressive bitterness and spiciness. It has a pleasant persistence, it is a very aromatic and balanced oil.
Food pairing
It is a delicious oil to consume raw at breakfast and snacks with traditional breads.
On the other hand, the arbequina is another very popular olive variety in Catalonia, Spain, and its extra virgin olive oil is characterised by its fruity and sweet flavour, as well as its delicate and balanced aroma.
Tasting Note
This oil is complex on the palate and harmoniously combines aromas of fresh and dried fruits. It has a subtle flavour of apple, tomato, green banana and fig.
Food pairing
White fish, marinades, salads and pastries.
